What scams should we be aware of before
we sign up for any bartending class?
Job placement Program (Scam #1)
Job Placement Program is the promise to find you
a job after you graduate from your bartending school. Or, at
least, that what you think it means. Traditional bartending schools use
"Job Placement Programs" to entice you into
signing up for their expensive classes. With this program, you think they
will find a job for you. Well, think again.
All what they do is handing you a sheet of paper with names and addresses
of different bars in your area and you
are on your own to find a job. That's what they call "Job Placement
Program." Anybody can get the same list by
searching the yellow pages on the Internet. Also, no bartending school
in the USA has the manpower to find jobs
for its graduates. So, please be careful and make sure you understand
exactly what they are offering before you
sign up. At eBartending School, we don't offer "Job Placement Program"
because we believe you know better
than anybody else where you would like to work. Additionally, in chapter
6 of our program, we show you the
secrets of getting the best bartending jobs not a list of bar names and
addresses.
Certificates (Scam #2)
Certificates are issued by traditional bartending
schools after you graduate their programs. They make you believe
that you cannot be employed without them. That is far from the truth.
You must know that certificates are not a
requirement for employment in the industry.
The proof is in the fact that the majority of bartenders in the industry
are either self employed or establishment
trained working without bartending schools' certificates. Also, the hiring
managers never ask about certificates.
Instead, they ask direct questions about bartending and drink recipes.
It takes seconds for them to know if you're
for real or not. eBartending School doesn't offer certificates for its
graduates, but we teach you how to answer the
hiring managers' questions competently and professionally.
Letters of Recommendation (Scam #3)
A letter of recommendation from a previous employer
is a good thing. But a letter of recommendation from a
bartending school is nothing but a joke. It is expected to say great things
about you since you paid for it. They
shouldn't assume that managers and/or owners are dumb enough to accept
them.
Please, don't present them along with your application and save yourself
the embarrassment. They are worthless.
Resumes (Scam #4)
Some bartending schools offer resume writing services
for their graduates. Again, this is another service that
has no value to you. In the hospitality industry, resumes are important
for management positions only. They
are not important for lower positions, such as, bartending, cooking, and
table serving.
Additionally, bars don't like resumes because they are always written
in a way to provide the least amount
of information about you. Job applications are more thorough than resumes.
Practice Kits (Scam #5)
Some online bartending schools offer practice kits
(bartender tools) for about $50 to $60. We think you shouldn't
buy them. Simply, because you can buy them from any liquor shop near you
for less than $20. Or, if you are
interested in saving more money, then follow our way. At eBartending School,
we show you how you can
have a practice kit for less than $2. Let us show you how.
A practice kit includes the following:
3-4 glasses, 2-3 empty bottles, a spoon with a long handle, an ice scoop,
a strainer, a shaker, 2-3 pourers and a jigger.
1. As for the glasses, we are sure you have glasses of different
sizes in your kitchen. In the program we will show
how to pick the glasses that are close enough to what is used in bars.
2. As for bottles, try to use empty bottles you have in your home,
such as, empty wine bottles or empty liquor
bottles. Don't limit yourself to any size or shape.
3. As for a spoon with a long handle, again, use a spoon from your
own kitchen. If you don't have a spoon
with a long handle, use one with a short one. It will not make any difference.
4. As for an ice scoop, use a tong from the kitchen.
5. As for the strainer, we have an entire chapter devoted to teach
fancy pouring techniques. We will show you
how to do without it.
6. As for the shaker, we will show you how to use two glasses with
different sizes to make a shaker.
7. As for the pourers and the jigger, you probably have no choice
but to buy them from a liquor shop if you
don't have them in your kitchen. They will cost you less than $2.
Again, if you want to own the tools, buy them from a liquor shop to save
yourself about $40. If you don't
want to own them, follow our way and save your money.
CD-ROM (Scam #6)
Sometimes when a CD-ROM is offered with similar
programs, the intention is to make you feel that you got
something extra for free. But, in fact, it is nothing more than another
scam.
The minute a CD-ROM package is opened, you loose your right to return
the product even if you are
dissatisfied with it and even if it comes with a money back guarantee.
At eBartending School, we send you a 200 page student manual instead of
a CD-ROM that you can
take with you anywhere and not limited to where your computer is located.
1. How old do I have to be bartend in the US?
Answer: In some states you can be
18 years old and in other states you have to be 21 to bartend.
Please, check with the liquor control authority in your state to find
out the correct age.
2. How much can a bartender earn after graduation?
Answer: A bartender can expect to
earn an average of $20.00 per hour.
3. What is Alcohol Server Education?
Answer: After you learn how
to bartend, some states require you to attend a class (about 4 hrs long)
called Alcohol Server
Education. In it, you learn the laws and liabilities of serving alcohol,
not how to bartend. Please don't confuse this
class with bartending education.
4. I have never operated a cash register system.
Would this be a problem for me to get a job?
Answer: Not at all. There are hundreds
of different cash register systems on the market and almost every system
is desigend
to the specifics of each establishment. You are not expected to know how
to operate any of them. However, the person
responsible for your training when you get a job would make sure you are
fully trained before you start your shift.
5. I want to learn how to flip and spin bottles
like Tom Cruise in the movie (Cocktail), so I can make more money.
Is this info covered by this program?
Answer: Yes, chapter "7"
is desigend to show you how to flip and spin bottles like a pro. It starts
with the basic moves then
it goes to the sophisticated ones. This chapter alone is worth the cost
of this program many times over.
6. How can I buy this program if I don't want
to use my credit card?
Answer:: We accept personal checks
and money orders. But, please, note the following:
1. If you send a personal check, we have to wait 10 days for your check
to clear the bank before
we send you your password.
2. You must have an email address and must be provided to us along with
your check or money order. 3. You must send payment or $40 plus $9.95 shipping and handling for a total of $49.95
4. Send your personal check or money order to following address:
